Break up with your favorite Starbucks drink, because Ariana Grande is bored. In other words, we have an Ariana Grande Starbucks drink collaboration on our hands! Yesterday, on March 4th, the “thank u, next” singer cryptically tweeted a fog emoji, coffee emoji, cloud emoji, and black heart emoji followed by “…. @starbucks 3/5.” This sent the internet into a full-on tizzy, with people wondering what the singer and coffee chain have brewing (pun intended).
Starbucks added to the fire by tweeting several messages hidden in pictures of clouds, making it clear that they would be unveiling something new today.
And as always, Starbucks delivered.
Today, March 5th, the Starbucks Cloud Macchiato become a part of the chain’s menu.
In an press release, Starbucks stated,
“Starbucks stores in the United States and Canada are offering a delightful new take on a classic beverage with the introduction of Cloud Macchiato. Available in two flavors, Caramel and Cinnamon, Starbucks Cloud Macchiato beverages feature whipped cold milk foam that has a light, fluffy and silky-smooth texture.”
The company said that the drink is inspired by leche merengada, a drink that’s popular in Spain. Starbucks’s version can be purchased in either a caramel flavor or cinnamon flavor.
The Caramel Cloud Macchiato includes “whipped cloud cold foam with a hint of vanilla syrup, followed by bold espresso and topped with a crosshatch of caramel drizzle.”
As for the Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato, it features “layers of whipped cloud cold foam with a hint of cinnamon lemon syrup, followed by espresso and finished with caramel drizzle crosshatch and a dusting of cinnamon.”
Both are also available as hot drinks.
To make the whipped cloud foam, Starbucks’s team had to create a special recipe that uses egg whites to form a fluffy layer of foam.
In other words, it contains egg white powder that is whipped with milk to create a foam.

As far as we know, the same powder is used on both hot and cold drinks.
Our team ordered: 1 iced grande Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato with 2%, 1 iced grande Caramel Cloud Macchiato with almond milk, 1 hot grande Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato with soy, and 1 hot grande Caramel Cloud Macchiato with almond milk.
And overall, the consensus was not great.
Our office manager, Jade, had this on-point response:
“Way too sweet for me. I had the iced caramel version with almond milk, and unfortunately, the caramel syrup settles to the bottom,” said our editorial assistant, Bailey. “I feel like I need to chug a water bottle to cleanse my body after all of that sugar.”
Brand Design Editor Anna explained, “As someone who doesn’t really like sweet coffee, the hot drink I tried was WAY too sweet. Thank u, next 😞.”
“The best part of the drink was definitely the foam — soooo fluffy and yummy!” said Associate Social Media Manager Sade. “The caramel was a great added touch, especially for someone like me who doesn’t enjoy coffee. 7 ‘rings’/10.”
Now let’s see what the Twitterverse has to say about this new beverage…

Gabs is coming at us with some cold, hard facts. Yikes!
Chloe, a barista, weighs in:
What do you think?
Does the Cloud Macchiato make you needy for more? Or, does it make you feel like a dangerous woman?
