This year, I’ve set a new personal record on wedding RSVPs. I’m not mad at it — especially because I love a good reception that includes line dancing and a wedding cake so pretty, it takes up half my camera roll. From the buttercream frosting, surprise filling, intricate designs, and theme, to the love behind it — every bite into a wedding cake is one that’s full of bliss.
If you haven’t had the chance to experience a wedding lately, this will be your sweet, sweet fantasy! Wedding cakes are undoubtedly a huge decision when it comes to wedding planning. 2018 especially has seen wedding cakes being taken to the next level. However, the only bummer about this article is that you can’t taste the cake. But you can certainly stare and drool, as we are right now.
Black Frosting
When rebellion takes the cake, literally! Black cake frosting at a traditionally white and pure ceremony will surely cause stares. And long stares at that — because this frosting looks pretty rad, but elegant at the same time.
This black on black is goth chic. Perfect for anyone who wants to have a unique wedding cake.
Gold accents were a nice touch!
Hand-Painted Art
A heap of talent and dedication is required for this technique. The results are almost too good to eat. This frosting job should be framed:
These watercolors are already taking our taste buds to a special place:
Wowzers! Have you seen a better cake?
Almost Naked…Or Naked Frosting
As much as I love cake, there is almost always some frosting leftover on my plate. We’re not five years old anymore and sometimes, the sugar becomes too much to handle. So whoever started this trend to save me from a sugar rush, while still making wedding cakes look lux, is a pure genius!
The decor looks so refreshing:
I wonder if these lovebirds fell in love while feeding each other a strawberry shortcake?
Messy Frosting
No need for that picture-perfect frosting that doesn’t always look edible. The messy frosting trend looks just as good and tastes the same, too.
Royal newlyweds Meghan Markle and Prince Harry started this trend, and I’m glad they did.
This looks way more appetizing than traditional frosting, IMO.
Marble Cake
This design is beautifully edgy and this year, couples are going for it. The marbled color palates are mesmerizing and a great choice.
Simplicity with a twist:
Style + grace = this perfect cake.
Color-Blocking
This trend is the ultimate break-away from the uniform wedding cake look. Every tier has its own story and color-blocking relays the message perfectly.
This color palette is amazing!
Yumm! I just want to lick the bottom.
Drips
Wedding cakes are now coming with special effects. The drizzle and drips of our favorite toppings are a hit this year.
That drizzle looks so tasty!
Wow, how did they get it to drip so perfectly!? Must be magic.
Rustic Theme
This theme plays a part in basically every wedding cake trend this year. Rustic weddings have led couples and designers to make unconventional choices when planning ceremonies. Nature especially has been the strongest influence.
I know it’s cake, but it looks so fashionable.
Yas wedding cake, take all of my attention!
Geode Cake
A cake that relieves stress? Point me in the right direction. I’m not sure I would eat my slice — I just want to gawk at it. This beautiful design technique is jaw-dropping.
Keep this trend going, please!
Is this man-made? Or did it fall from heaven? I can’t tell.
Simple, with a remarkable touch. This cake was the star of the wedding for sure.
