We’ve all heard the saying, “You can’t change a man” and I’m sure we have all found this to hold some truth. Men can be extremely stubborn in certain situations. Most men will not mettle in anything considered a women’s job. Granted, ladies it’s an honor that men assume we can handle every task that society has placed upon us without any help. But, the reality of the situation is that we can’t. Help is needed and mostly in the kitchen. If every attempt to get your man to help with cooking has failed, don’t give up I think I can help. Ladies let the battle begin.
Tip #1 Stop Making His Favorite Dishes
Consider this his warning. Once his favorite smells are no longer flowing from the kitchen, he’ll quickly get that wake-up call that you are serious. I’m sure you’ve asked nicely a few times for assistance and he’s failed to cooperate. Why should you continue to meet his needs if your needs are still not met?
Tip #2 Threaten to Leave Him
This is not a drill ladies. This is war and you need to fight with every weapon you have. But, if you can’t bring yourself to threatening him with this, I understand. There are other things you can threaten to be revoked. Just make sure you threaten something and stand your ground. Make his nights a little cold, feel me?
Tip #3 Brag
Hopefully, he’s on the losing end of this battle and agrees to cook a meal. Congratulations, but this does not mean the battle is over. Once he decides to cook or assist with cooking, make sure you give him recognition. I don’t mean a simple thank you note either. You need to brag about him. The next time that you two are on a double date is a great opportunity. Your man is better, so make sure the other couple is aware of that.
Tip #4 Give Him Recipes
Maybe he’s not consistently cooking because he’s not familiar with what to cook. This is normal, don’t forget he’s learning. Provide him with easy beginner recipes throughout the week and help if he needs it.
Tip #5 Have the Kids Ask
This is sneaky, but still on the moral high ground. Your precious children shouldn’t have anything to do with this, but they are eating these meals too. If children are in the equation, use them as ammunition. I’ll give an example. If daddy made Hamburger Helper this Thursday and the kids loved it, whisper in your kid’s ear to ask daddy for his delicious Hamburger Helper again next Thursday. He will not be able to tell them no.
Tip #6 Buy Him Cooking Toys
Men love their toys. Buy him gifts that can only be used in the kitchen.
Tip #7 Make it Fun for Him
Hopefully, by now, he is consistently lending a hand in the kitchen. It’s time to celebrate, while still showing appreciation. Have kitchen competitions and rewards for him. Especially if you notice him losing interest. I have another reward in mind too, just make sure the kids aren’t around.
