This Company Says Hot Dogs Are Sandwiches, And Twitter Is On Fire

hot dog sandwich debate

Oscar Mayer has started a huge controversy, and they definitely don’t seem sorry about it. This week, they decided to end a long debate and put their opinion out there: the company said that hot dogs are sandwiches, and Twitter is on fire with responses.

The famous hot dog company tweeted this out right before National Sandwich Day, meaning they were basically looking for an internet argument. Their tweet featured an image that said, “A hot dog is a sandwich!” with the caption, “We know what’s true… But we’re gonna give you 24 hours to change our mind. Call to tell us why you think a hot dog IS NOT a sandwich. #ChangeOscarsMind” There’s even a phone number you can call: 1-833-SNDWICH.

It’s a toll-free hotline and allows you to give all of your thoughts on this obviously very important subject.

We know what's true... But we're gonna give you 24 hours to change our mind. Call to tell us why you think a hot dog IS NOT a sandwich. #ChangeOscarsMind pic.twitter.com/mhUoHBmnre

The people over at Delish gave the hotline a ring, and according to them, you’ll hear the Oscar Mayer jingle when you call. Once you leave a message, you’re basically consenting that the company can use your message any way they’d like, although they specifically say they might put it on Twitter. And yes, you can leave an anonymous message if you’re really concerned about the world finding out your feelings on hot dogs as sandwiches.

They didn’t even really need that hotline, though, because Twitter users have been plenty vocal about their thoughts all over the social media site — not that we can blame them. This is a serious debate! Check out some of the best responses:

If I flip my sandwich over, it’s still a sandwich. If I flip my hot dog over, it’s on the floor.

A hotdog is not a sandwich. A foot isn't a stupid looking hand. Similar attributes does not mean it's the same.

A ham sandwich without the bread, is ham. A hotdog without a bun, is still a hotdog, not a sandwich. That hotdog all by itself off the grill, with no bread, is a glorious smokey hotdog fit for eating all by itself without some smushy bun. #HotDogNotASandwich

While all of these users make excellent points, Oscar Mayer made another good point:

If you can finally agree that a hot dog is a sandwich, that would just mean that there are MORE sandwich options in the world which is an AMAZING thing, right?!?!

— Oscar Mayer (@oscarmayer) November 1, 2018

I mean, yeah. That’s very true. Still, users weren’t swayed.

To agree would be a lie and my Mama told me never to lie. Are you telling me to lie? I'm telling my Mama on You! pic.twitter.com/vEsSnI4lcB

I'm not calling so you can run your evil Jedi mind tricks on me. A hot dog is NOT a sandwich for the simple reason is that it is/was always called a hot dog NOT a hot dog sandwich. pic.twitter.com/oORVY1hWn3

But some were into it!

@IndyFuel, we all know they are sandwiches... Not even up for question!

@kaitlinmonte A hotdog is 100% a sandwich.
