This New White Wine Emoji Idea Has People More Excited Than Ever

I remember when emojis were fairly new. At first, I thought, “What’s the point? A colon and a parenthesis are enough to reflect my mood and levels of sarcasm through text!” But then, I became obsessed. Emojis help express joy in ways words often can’t. They go beyond a standard frown or smiley. Friends knew you weren’t actually LOL-ing when you sent them an LOL — so the cry-laugh face seems a little more truthful. And what better way to brighten someone’s day than with a dinosaur or two to give your message more personality?

Emojis have expanded with time, and there’s always outrage when a certain product or image isn’t properly recognized. It took forever for redheads, mangoes, lobsters, and even super-villains to get acknowledged through emoji, and now one of the best go-to chill beverages may finally get the credit it deserves — white wine. Sure, you’ll get a standard glass of red if you want to ask your girlfriends to partake in a night out, but as all wine fans know, the two are in totally different classes.

The urge to add white wine to the lineup is all thanks to a wine company called Kendall-Jackson, who wrote a 15-page proposal to Unicode explaining why the addition would be an important one. And, well, kudos!

Probably known best for their Chardonnay, Kendall-Jackson is all about the movement to have white wine represented in every group chat.

Visit https://t.co/RJTdSQDZv0 on August 2nd and we'll have everything you need to help join the movement. But for now, let's celebrate the weekend with a glass of Chardonnay 😉 https://t.co/3WJN2bSoD9

“Our submission for a White Wine Emoji has been accepted for review by the Unicode Consortium (the governing body that coordinates and sets global coding standards). But our work isn’t over,” the company wrote on their website, which was created to support the movement. “Let’s create some noise and show the Unicode Technical Committee just how WANTED the White Wine Emoji really is. Show your support for the world’s first White Wine Emoji by using #WhiteWineEmoji – because the best things in the world go beyond words!”

Things are expected to officially kick off on August 2nd. If their efforts work, and the emoji gets added in a future update, it’s a good reason to bust out a glass of celebratory Chardonnay.

Have an idea for an emoji? You can submit a proposal to Unicode right here. The emoji’s short name, keywords, and licenses are just a few factors that must be included.
