There’s A Viral Banana Prank That Has Mesmerized (And Frightened) The Internet

viral banana prank

Going grocery shopping is about to get…spooky. Comedy television writer and Twitter user Kevin Biegel came up with a hilarious prank involving bananas and his imagination. He figured out that if you scratch messages into banana peels, the etchings eventually turn brown. This means we can all scare the daylights out of our unsuspecting fellow grocery shoppers.

“Favorite new thing,” Biegel tweeted alongside two banana photos showing the result of his prank. “Scratching haunting things into bananas at the market so when people take them home hours later and the words appear they think a ghost knows their secrets.”

On his experimental banana, Biegel scratched, “I know what you did.” Yeah, that would absolutely scare our pants off, as would “I see you,” “Don’t eat me,” and literally anything else because bananas should not have words on them!

Biegel’s July 5th tweet went viral, and has garnered over 180,000 likes and 56,000 retweets in just four days. With that many people catching wind of Biegel’s prank, we predict we’ll be experiencing some extreme banana paranoia for the next few weeks.

Whether or not people are actually going to start doing this at their local supermarkets, Biegel is getting major kudos for inventing a great way for potassium-loving spies to send secret messages.

And, hey — not all banana messages have to be scary. Please, listen to us: Don’t make all bananas scary!

To those of you who are getting ideas, we urge you to think before you scratch. Sinister messages written on bananas do have the potential to cause minor chaos because not everyone will find this funny. Maybe stick to pranking your friends and family rather than taking this public.

Beware the bananas, everyone. They’re out to haunt us all.

Prefer to eat bananas instead of carving frightening messages in them? Same. That’s why we created a banana split bar that we crave on a daily basis.
