Just when we thought there’s no graceful way to eat a banana, the Queen of England tells us otherwise. According to Her Royal Highness’s former chef, Darren McGrady, Queen Elizabeth II attacks her bananas with a fork and knife. She does so to avoid looking “like a monkey.” Honestly, we can’t say that we’re shocked.
Queen Elizabeth certainly seems like the fork, knife, and napkin-in-your-lap-at-all-times type of lady. And as McGrady said, Elizabeth has an even more particular way of tackling her yellow fruit.
McGrady, who originally revealed this tidbit of royal info in his book, Eating Royally, told Insider that the Queen removes the tip and tail end of the banana first with her knife. She then cuts the peel lengthwise for easy access to the fruit inside. Finally, she slices her bananas up into smaller bits and eats each piece with a fork.
The Queen supposedly enjoys eating as healthy as possible when she’s not eating out at state dinners. When she’s eating at home, Her Royal Highness prefers to steer clear of starchy foods — that means potatoes, pastas, and rice are all off-limits. Instead, Queen Elizabeth prefers a lighter fare of vegetables and grilled fish, McGrady, who was also chef to Princess Diana, said.
McGrady spills more tea about his time serving as royal chef to Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana in his most recent book, The Royal Chef at Home: Easy Seasonal Entertaining.

Sure, the way the Queen eats her bananas is weird AF. But honestly, could you picture her doing it any other way?
