A Twitter account is making the news for a wild discovery involving French fries. But not everyone is on board. “Today Years Old,” an account that’s popular for making commonly unknown discoveries public, posted a photo of what is clearly McDonald’s French fries. But they’re positioned in a way that’s causing a little bit of controversy.
In fact, it’s so zany that a lot of people are actually protesting the discovery. In the photo, Today Years Old reveals a flap on the container that, in their mind, is perfect to put ketchup on for dipping. Or mayonnaise, if that happens to be your thing.
But is it legit? The account itself tosses a few jokes in there on occasion (such as a tweet that reads, “Just found out chocolate milk doesn’t come from brown cows… that’s wild) but they also have a couple of backers on this theory.
If this is true, that means there’s two condiment dippers that have mislead us this entire time — the fry container, and the popular small white tub. As it turns out, the paper tub is meant to expand, in order to hold a lot more ketchup than you may have initially thought. Which is extremely funny, since when French fries are concerned, everyone knows you need at a minimum two ketchups.
Did y’all know the flap on your fries box actually has a purpose? pic.twitter.com/abptKfFxSB

Anyone else suddenly inspired to buy fries to see if this is actually true? One person made a pretty funny conclusion as to what’d actually happen if this method worked.
But mostly, people were in disbelief. Even with a photo, it just seems wrong.
I think the high end of the box is meant to for the workers to be able to grab the top without burning your fingers w freshly hot fries out from the deep fryer (scolding hot oil). But this can of course double as a dip corner. Just my thought!

It’s also important to note that the flap in question isn’t even on a bunch of fry packages. So the original could be altered to resemble a McDonald’s container. That, or McDonald’s utilizes different containers on occasion.
Others used the tweet to vent their true feelings on ketchup in general. Because it’s one of those love-it-or-hate-it condiments.
Sure, it’s a pretty good way to make sure your French fries are covered in ketchup if you have limited time, but there are probably some fallbacks. When ketchup is concerned, you want to make sure it avoids all areas that your hand might brush into. Ketchup stains are never fun to deal with.
It seems like Today Years Old is all about putting ridiculous findings up, often multiple per day.

How old were you when you realized twinkle twinkle little star and the ABC’s have the same tune?

And of course, they also covered the previously-mentioned ketchup cup.

Even if you find the fry findings upsetting, just know that there’s nobody out there who can officially dictate how you eat your McDonald’s fries.
All that matters is that you enjoy them, which is pretty simple to do.
