A major popcorn recall is underway after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that certain bags of Cabot Creamery Sea Salt Caramel Cheddar Popcorn are being pulled from shelves because they may contain peanuts that were not listed on the ingredient label, creating a serious risk for people with peanut allergies. This recall has affected products shipped to at least eight states, and shoppers are being urged to check their pantries.

The recall affects 6-ounce (170 g) bags of the caramel cheddar popcorn with lot number 2519907B1 and a “Best If Enjoyed By” date of July 15, 2026, and it includes product sold in multiple regions across the United States, meaning many consumers may have purchased the affected items.

Because peanuts are a major allergen that can trigger severe or life-threatening reactions in sensitive individuals, officials say it’s important to act quickly by identifying and removing any recalled popcorn from your home to avoid accidental consumption.

Why the Popcorn Was Recalled and Where It Went

The recall was initiated after the manufacturer, Jody’s Inc., was alerted to customer complaints of peanuts found inside bags of the popcorn even though peanuts were not declared on the packaging, prompting action in cooperation with the FDA to protect public health.

The affected popcorn was originally distributed on July 23, 2025, was packed in foil printed bags and shipped first to a warehouse in Illinois before being sent on to distribution centers in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon, and Texas and then onward to retail stores in those regions and beyond.

Even though no illnesses have been officially reported so far, officials emphasize that people with known peanut allergies or severe sensitivities should be especially cautious because unlabeled peanuts pose a direct risk of allergic reaction, from hives and swelling to potentially more serious symptoms.

The Health Risk and What Shoppers Should Do

Peanut allergies can trigger a range of symptoms depending on individual sensitivity, and exposure to even a small amount of peanuts in a product not labeled to contain them can result in rapid onset reactions, which is why officials categorize this as a serious food safety concern, especially in households with children or allergy sufferers.

Shoppers who find bags of Cabot Creamery Sea Salt Caramel Cheddar Popcorn with the affected lot number and expiration date in their pantry should not eat the product and are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase for a refund or discard it safely to avoid accidental consumption.

Keeping food purchases up to date with recall alerts and regularly inspecting labels for lot codes and expiration dates can help families stay safe and avoid unexpected risks tied to undeclared allergens in packaged foods.

Closing Thoughts on Staying Safe With Recalls

Food recalls like this popcorn alert highlight the importance of reading ingredient labels carefully and staying informed about recall announcements from trusted sources, because allergens such as peanuts can pose real dangers when they are not properly listed on packaging.

Even if a product looks and smells unchanged, it may still be unsafe if it matches a recall’s lot number or distribution details, so erring on the side of caution is key to protecting your family’s health.

By taking a few moments to check your pantry, follow official recall guidelines, and return or discard affected items promptly, you can help reduce the risk of allergic reactions and support broader efforts to keep the food supply safe for all consumers.
