Hershey Rolls Out New Reese’s Pieces Flavor After 10 Years of Product Silence

Ten years is long enough for a candy aisle to completely reinvent itself. Reese’s Pieces just sat there anyway, selling the exact same little peanut butter shells since 2016. That decade of quiet is finally ending. Hershey just announced a new Reese’s Pieces flavor built around a crunchy chocolate cookie center. A candy that barely changed for ten years just made its first real move.

The New Flavor Is Really a New Texture

A new Reese’s Pieces flavor finally exists, and it centers on crunch. Reese’s Pieces with Chocolate Cookie tucks a crunchy chocolate cookie piece into the middle, wraps it in peanut butter, and coats the whole thing in the classic candy shell. That layered build adds texture the original candy never had. Familiar flavor, unfamiliar bite, same little colorful shell on the outside.

The Last Update Happened a Full Decade Ago

A full decade passed without a single new Reese’s Pieces product hitting shelves. The last major update came in 2016, when Reese’s Pieces got tucked inside a traditional peanut butter cup instead of sold on their own. That combination became a lasting hit and never left store shelves. Ten years later, the brand is finally following it up with something built from scratch again.

Store Shelves Get First Dibs Before Online Shoppers

Timing matters just as much as flavor for a launch like this. Reese’s Pieces with Chocolate Cookie hits store shelves nationwide on July 17. Online shoppers will have to wait a little longer, since the candy becomes available through shop.hersheys.com starting July 25. That eight day gap gives in store shoppers first access before the rest of the country can order online.

The Packaging Is Doing Almost as Much Work as the Recipe

Snacking habits shaped this candy just as much as flavor testing did. The new treat comes packaged in small pouches designed to get tossed into backpacks and beach bags for grab and go snacking. A king size version is planned for later in 2026, aimed at bigger cravings and shared snacking moments. Packaging, it turns out, is doing almost as much work here as the recipe itself.

Crunch Is the Real Star of This Update

Crunch has become one of the most requested textures in modern snacking. Adding a chocolate cookie center taps directly into that demand, layering something crisp into a candy that used to be soft all the way through. That single texture shift changes how the whole piece feels in your mouth, not just how it tastes. Sometimes a recipe update is really a texture update wearing a new flavor’s name.

This Launch Is the Third Big Reese’s Move This Year

This launch is not happening in isolation, it fits a much busier year for the Reese’s brand overall. Back in April, Hershey rolled out the new Reese’s Marshmallow Cup alongside the returning Reese’s Strawberry PB&J Cup, which had last appeared on shelves in 2025. Reese’s Pieces with Chocolate Cookie now joins that lineup as the third major move of the year.

“No One Does Flavor Mashups Quite Like Reese’s”

Hershey is not shy about how it wants this new lineup understood. According to the company’s press release, “no one does flavor mashups quite like Reese’s.” That line sums up a strategy built entirely on combining familiar flavors in new physical forms. Cups, pieces, cookies and peanut butter keep getting rearranged into new shapes. The ingredients rarely change. The combinations almost always do.

The Last New Idea Became a Permanent Shelf Staple

The last time Reese’s Pieces tried something new, it turned into a permanent shelf staple. The 2016 Reese’s Pieces Peanut Butter Cup proved consumers were willing to embrace a Reese’s mashup, and it never got discontinued. That track record puts real pressure on Chocolate Cookie to perform the same way. Ten years of silence set a high bar for whatever finally broke it.

Whether This Sticks Around Is Still Completely Unwritten

Ten years of standing still just came to an end for one of Hershey’s most familiar candies. Reese’s Pieces with Chocolate Cookie is betting that crunch, not a brand new flavor, is what finally moves the needle. Store shelves get first access on July 17, with online shoppers following a week later. Whether this becomes the next Peanut Butter Cup style hit or a quiet footnote is still completely unwritten.
