This Is The Most Popular Diet For 2019 — And Non-Americans Will Love It

There will never be a time when “get healthier” or “feel more fit” won’t be popular New Year’s resolutions. Eating the right foods and staying in shape can take a lot of time and patience, and it gets harder and harder with every passing year (curse you, metabolism!). But sometimes certain diets work better than others (for some people). The most popular diet for 2019 is likely one you’ve heard of, but probably never tried before — unless you’ve traveled to parts of Europe, or are just really well-versed in trendy diets through the years.

According to Cooking Light, more and more Americans are giving the Mediterranean diet a try. For the second year in a row, it’s been labeled as the most popular, and here’s the best news of all — it’s not all that difficult to follow.

If you’re the type of person to cringe at the word “diet,” just know that the rankings do keep health in mind. In fact, this one scored positively since it was safe and nutritious, and is proven to help people avoid heart disease and diabetes.

Most Popular wasn’t the only category where the Mediterranean diet took the #1 spot. Altogether, it got top placement for Best Diet for Healthy Eating, Easiest Diet to Follow, Best Plant-Based Diet, and Best Diet for Diabetes. It tied with the Ornish Diet for Best Heart-Healthy Diet, which is still pretty notable.

So, what’s the diet all about?

As you may have guessed by its name, it centers itself around popular cuisine found in areas like Croatia, Greece, and Italy. Many of the dishes include vegetables, fish, nuts, and whole grains. So, there’s not too much room for processed food. Instead, it’s all very fresh and very nutritious.

Just by looking at some of these food photos that dieters have posted on Instagram will make you want to jump on board. Who knew dieting could look so delicious?

Have you ever seen veggies look more appetizing? Not only does this food look healthy, but it looks satisfying — and that’s a really important component to any successful plan. Eating Well actually referred to the diet as the “the world’s healthiest diet,” which is hard to disprove.

This diet also doesn’t cut out your favorites. In fact, it’s been stated that following the Mediterranean Diet with a glass of wine may actually lower depression rates. So, that’s something to give cheers to.

If you’re looking to start living a healthier lifestyle, the Mediterranean Diet is likely your best bet (but please consult your doctor before trying any kind of diet — we’re not professionals, we’re just food lovers). It’s the perfect excuse to enjoy your vegetables in a completely different way. Plus, it’ll offer health benefits well beyond weight loss.
