Wait, How Many Calories Are in This Cocktail?

Calories are not something people typically want to think about while out having fun. With adults usually, alcoholic beverages accompany a good time. However, when you start to notice a small pouch or love handles making their debut, maybe calories in cocktails should slide into your thoughts.

Keep in mind the mixers (liqueurs, juices, sweeteners) added to cocktails will raise the calorie count. Sticking to neat drinks, herbs, fruit, and tonic mixers will help keep the count low. Every alcohol varies in calories, due to the type and brand. Here’s a graph that displays the average number of calories in most spirits. Use this information as a base count when adding up the calories in your cocktail.

Slowing down or acquitting your alcohol intake could be a key factor in your weight loss. There was a study done in 2012 by the National Center for Health that revealed the average American intakes a hundred calories a day from alcohol intake. That means ten pounds of your weight gain in a year could be due to your happy hour habit. The study also states that men between the ages 20 to 39 consume the most calories from alcohol intake, with 175 calories a day.

It is very rare to find any nutrition facts and calorie number listed on your favorite bottle of booze. Therefore, it’s up to you to be aware of what you’re consuming in every alcoholic beverage. Here’s a tip: stick to the same drink or alcohol all night. That way you’re familiar with calories in that drink and only left with the task of knowing how many drinks you’ve had. Even though your memory may start to get blurry after every sip. Good luck with drinking calories responsibly. Cheers!
