Published April 26, 2018

Just when we thought donuts couldn’t get even more extra. We’re keeping the galaxy-themed trend alive with these galaxy mirrored glazed donuts. National Donut Day is June 1st, so step up your game and wow your coworkers with these beauties.

Galaxy Glaze Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup cold water
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 8 oz white chocolate chips
  • 1½ tbsp unflavored gelatin (2 packets)
  • Black, blue, pink, and purple gel food coloring
  • (Optional) white food coloring
  • (Optional) black disco dust glitter

Instructions:

Before you begin working on the glaze, mix 2 packets of unflavored gelatin with ½ cup of cold water. Set it aside to allow it to bloom.

Now we can start on the galaxy glaze! Over medium heat, fill a medium-sized pot with 1 cup of sugar, ¼ cup of water, and ½ cup of light corn syrup.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step2-e1524522305763.jpg”]

You can occasionally stir this mixture until it begins to bubble.

In a separate bowl, add 8 oz white chocolate chips and ½ cup of sweetened condensed milk.

Remember that gelatin I had you set aside? Give it a little test with your finger to check if it’s “bloomed.” If so, then add it to your bowl of white chocolate chips and condensed milk.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step5-e1524522330978.jpg”]

Remove the mixture of sugar, water, and light corn syrup from the heat and pour it over the bowl of white chocolate chips.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step6-e1524522337865.jpg”]

Don’t stir this right away. Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rest for at least 5 minutes. This will allow for the white chocolate chips to melt and will make mixing much easier.

Once your 5 minutes are up, remove the towel and grab a whisk. Whisk until smooth.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step8-e1524522391566.jpg”]

Grab 5 small bowls and divide your uncolored glaze into each bowl.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step9-e1524522398345.jpg”]

This is where the fun starts! Add the black, purple, blue, and pink gel food coloring to 4 bowls. Leave the 5th bowl uncolored for now.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step10-e1524522406885.jpg”]

Take a spoon and stir each color up.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step11-e1524522414166.jpg”]

Let’s get pourin’! Grab a large bowl and add half of the black glaze to it. Pouring in a swirling motion, follow with 2/3 of the purple, blue, and pink glazes Don’t just pour the glazes in one spot! Otherwise, your galaxies won’t turn out.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step12-e1524522420915.jpg”]

Let’s tone down the colors a little bit. Add a few drops of white gel food coloring to the bowl.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step13-e1524522427400.jpg”]

You’re almost done! Use a knife and stir in a swirling motion to mix the colors together. Don’t mix the colors completely; you want your bowl to resemble something similar to the photo above.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step15-e1524522441484.jpg”]

We’re using store-bought, pre-glazed donuts. If you’re feeling ambitious you absolutely can make your donuts from scratch and glaze them yourself. More power to you!

Pro tip: rest your donuts over an open mason jar so you can catch and reuse the excess glaze. Slowly pour the marbled glaze over the donuts until they are fully colored. Feel free to add a second coat if your glaze is running a little thin.

[image_with_caption text=”” image=”https://soyummy.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/step18-e1524522460274.jpg”]

Now to add the final touches to your donuts. Add white gel food coloring to that 5th bowl of uncolored glaze. Take a pastry brush and dip it the bowl. Run a finger through the bristles to flick some specs of white on your donuts. These will be your “stars.”

Repeat the steps for however many donuts you have. You can follow along with the video below!
