McDonald’s Is Now Selling Their Most Insane Fries Yet

If you thought that nothing could get better than the McDonald’s fry, you might be surprised to know that the company is still finding new ways to change it up. Specifically, McDonald’s Japan is experimenting with carbonara fries, and we’re not lying when we say that they might very well be worth booking a trip for.

They’re officially called Kaketemiyo Carbonara fries, and if you’re unfamiliar with carbonara, just know this — it’s more or less the equivalent of a cheese fry. It’s actually a little strange that McDonald’s waited so long to try out a combination like this. Everyone knows that cheese fries are the best cure for a bad day. Disco fries (crinkle-cut fries covered in gravy and mozzarella) come in at a close second — surely people from New Jersey will agree.

According to the official press release from McDonald’s, the fries will be available in McDonald’s locations throughout Japan for a limited time — during the month of November, if all goes according to plan. The sauce used on the fries incorporates three types of cheese, as well as smoked bacon and a little bit of black pepper. Served warm, it’s meant to cover your fries, but it can be used to spice up other menu items as well.

It’s kind of a shock that these fries will only be around for a short time, since it seems like they’d be compatible with most menu items.

Since the McDonald’s restaurants in the United States seem to be focused mostly on healthy steps forward, like using real beef and getting rid of artificial ingredients, it’s unlikely that the fries will make a debut over here. But that doesn’t mean you can’t whip up some carbonara sauce yourself and try to recreate them at home!
