This Photo Of An Egg Is The Most Liked Instagram In The History Of Instagram

These days, it takes a lot to surprise us. But just when we thought we’d seen it all, the good people of the internet crowned a new most-liked photo on Instagram. And it’s food-themed! Any guesses? No, it’s not a perfect plating at a gourmet restaurant or a quirky cocktail at a swanky lounge. It’s…an egg. Nope, not a fancy frittata or a delightful deviled egg. Just…an egg. In its shell. A brown egg, to be exact. The egg goes by World Record Egg, and we have a lot of thoughts.

Here’s what happened: On January 4th, World Record Egg uploaded a single photo of a brown egg. The photo set out to accomplish a simple goal: get more likes than Kylie Jenner, whose first photo of her daughter Stormi racked up 18 million likes in February 2018. Using the hashtags #LikeTheEgg, #EggSoldiers, and #EggGang, the internet got to work. And within 10 days, World Record Egg accomplished its goal—and more. As of January 14th, the photo is the most-liked picture on Instagram, Eater reports. It has over 33 million likes and counting. Oh, and a casual four million followers. Also, don’t forget a blue verified checkmark! We’re speechless, impressed, and only a little bit jealous. Of an egg.

It’s official: An egg has a better social media following than the rest of us.

After the picture went viral, World Record Egg’s account creator thanked everyone for their likes.

Oh, and they promised something else: Egg Gang merch is in the works.

Instagram users love the egg.

The comments on the pic are a sea of positivity.

They’re very proud of its accomplishments.

This calls for many, many egg puns.

Twitter users love the egg, too.

Of course, they have plenty of jokes.

And memes.

It’s no easy feat to beat a Kardashian-Jenner at the social media game, but World Record Egg made it happen.

Here’s the photo of Baby Stormi that previously held the world record for most Instagram likes:

Even though Jenner was de-throned, she had a great sense of humor about it.

She posted a video of her cracking an egg on the sidewalk in faux protest. LOL:

Even though it’s 11 months old, fans are flocking to Jenner’s original pic again.

Only now, instead of commenting “lb” (asking Jenner and her followers to “like back,”) they’re leaving egg emoji.

Who knows? With all of the attention Kylie’s pic is getting again, maybe her loyal followers will campaign to get her post back on top.

Only time will tell. Oh, internet. Never, ever change.
