It goes without saying that pizza makes everything better. After all, as one of the most loved foods in the country, pizza can seriously do no wrong. (One might even argue that pizza is one of the few things everyone can agree on — but we’ll save that discussion for another day.) And if you follow Drew Barrymore on Instagram, you probably know that she’s had her fair share of pizza-related thoughts.
The 43-year-old actress, author, and entrepreneur recently posted a photo of a slice of pizza in a triangle-shaped glass case that read “In Case of Emergency, Break Glass.” The post also had the caption, “This is exactly how I feel on my diet right now!”
Barrymore has been sharing her diet and fitness journey over the last several months. Last December, Barrymore shared that she lost 25 pounds, according to an article on People.
The photo, as you can imagine, sparked lots of laughs (and laughing emojis). Many followers tagged their friends and expressed interest in having the glass case in their home, too. Her fans also cheered her on and left words of encouragement. “Omg YES! Exactly how we’re feeling too!”, said one user. Another Instagram user commented, “YOU GOT THIS GIRL!!! YOU’RE ACE.”
While we love that Barrymore’s fans will always have her back, we can’t help but think: Why not let her have a treat every now and then?
Now, we’re not saying that Barrymore’s followers are literally holding her back.
She’s a grown woman, obviously, and can make her own decisions.
If Barrymore wants to skip the pizza, then that’s her choice.
However, the way followers encouraged her speaks volumes around our culture’s narrative around dieting.
Granted, the same can be said about how many celebrities and influencers post these things to begin with.
Why not consider “bad” foods as “sometimes” foods?
These foods aren’t evil.
They’re “treat” foods, not “cheat” foods.
When we demonize certain foods, eating becomes less about health and enjoyment, and more about the scale.
Besides, thanks to the wonderful world of the Internet, there are many ways to enjoy “sometimes” foods in other ways.
There’s a reason why cauliflower pizza crust exists.
But you can’t deny the beauty of a classic slice of pizza.
Because pizza is pretty darn amazing, TBH.
Either way, we think Barrymore deserves a slice of pizza every now and then.
And we think you do, too!
