You may know her best as Lara Jean from the 2018 Netflix movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but actress Lana Condor is much more than that. Like many of us, the 21-year-old has had issues with her body image before. Since her career is just taking off, she’s decided to use her spotlight for an incredible reason.
Condor is making sure to post photos of all her meals on Instagram (her feed and Stories) to help humanize the process of eating. Because sometimes, when we’re hard on ourselves, we forget that food is a necessary part of living. And the fact that cooking is literally an art form (and a huge part of our culture) it’s better to highlight food than pretend it doesn’t exist. Plus, often times we non-famous people find it hard to believe celebrities also eat food, too. Sometimes even junk food! At the end of the day, we’re all human.
The actress spoke about it candidly to Elle Canada. “I know what it’s like to have an eating disorder and body dysmorphia—and also what it’s like to be a friend to someone who has that,” she noted.
“I think it’s time to give people comfort. You have to eat. You have to stop thinking that a certain body shape is ideal, because it’s not.”
With a reach of over 6.5 million followers, Condor doesn’t just post food — she makes it artistic.
Even better, it’s more than just salads and health food. It looks like Condor tries hard to enjoy herself when it comes to her diet.
While some of the photos are exaggerated, they all prove that food is an important part of who we are as people.
Also, it’s kind of refreshing to literally see the food that a young celebrity enjoys. She’s making it obvious that you can be successful while also ordering those fries.
Just be careful. You may not want to look at Condor’s account on an empty stomach, because her choices really do look amazing.
She’s also quick to mention her food preferences.
Like, ever try hot sauce on a breakfast sandwich before? It’s next level.
Condor has actually been documenting her favorite food moments for years.
It seems like her goal was always to keep things real, and photograph food with no guilt.
It’s not just food. It’s beverages, too. Condor adds points to her “so relatable” score by being a fan of iced coffee.
Condor wins the Instagram food game by also thinking up short, clever captions for her food photos.
For example, this one is simply “Eat ya heart out.”
(And based on that sushi spread, don’t mind if I do!)
Speaking of, the actress highlights sushi often.
She’d be the perfect person to grab a roll or two with.
But honestly, not all of her photos are focused around food.
That’s why you may have missed her intent if you were scrolling past her Instagram. It’s not really to prove a point, as much as highlight how incredible and nourishing food is.
Nobody should be ashamed of grabbing an occasional burger at In-N-Out.
Even if you’re about to be on set, you also need to live.
Condor also admitted that food was a big part of her upbringing.
Instead of going to parties in school, she preferred grabbing a bite to eat with her parents.
“I would just hang out with my parents, have good food and watch movies with them,” she said.
Honestly, it sounds like a fun time.
So, what can Condor’s fans get out of this?
Well, they can see that it’s so important to have a healthy relationship with food. Yes, it’s important to eat healthy.
But it’s also important to know that food is more than just calories.
Food should be an enjoyable, educational experience.
It’s difficult to completely change your relationship with food overnight, but just remember…
An occasional indulgence shouldn’t be a bad thing. Food is meant to be enjoyed.
And also, people are successful at all sizes.
Just because someone is thin doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re healthy.
Hopefully, Condor keeps documenting her meals.
Her account is a lot of fun, and the perfect way to get a little bit of lunch inspiration.
