We always are sad to see one of our favorite fast food items disappear! Fast food is easy, convenient, and often, delicious! It may not be the healthiest option, but typically one does not go to a fast food restaurant for the nutrition. They go for the staples.
No matter which restaurant, every fast food place has iconic items that are no longer on the menu or served seasonly.
From the McDonalds Chicken Selects to the Taco Bell Volcano Burrito, these items were once super popular, and today are missed by the masses. People will go crazy contacting the offices of these chains in a plea to get the items back. Items do sometimes come back, so we like to show you some seasonal options as well like McDonalds McRib or Wendy’s nuggets.
Since we know everyone is hungry, Let’s take a look at some of these items and the restaurants that served them.
1. McDonald’s Chicken Selects
McDonald’s has gained a reputation for discontinued fan-favorite items, and they often introduce limited-time seasonal offerings that grace their menu for just a month or two – think of classics like the Shamrock Shake or the McRib. But among these, one item truly stands out: the McChicken Selects, which, yes, are essentially delicious chicken fingers.
If you consider how popular chicken nuggets and chicken sandwiches are at McDonald’s, it becomes easier to understand why these were so popular. Who doesn’t like fried chicken? The real question is however, when will they be back?!
2. Mcdonalds Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait
We all love McDonald’s breakfast hours. It’s arguably their best time of day. They have a range of options and there are some that are simply too good to put down. One of those is the Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait.
The parfait mixes fruit with yogurt and granola, it really is an amazing mix of flavor and texture. It is incredibly caloric, but when you are at McDonald’s you are there for the amazing eats. It’s too bad that it’s not around anymore, but they still have some great options.
3. Wendy’s Bacon and Blue Burger
The Bacon and Blue burger certainly swept people off their feet. To begin with, Wendy’s to many people is considered the best burger in the fast food world. That being the case, the one with blue cheese and bacon was a major hit. Nevertheless, it didn’t last as the burger gained a reputation for being too messy.
4. Taco Bell Volcano Burrito
This one hurts, Taco Bell also has a reputation for taking away some fan favorites. The Volcano Burrito disappeared in 2013, however this 800 calorie packed burrito was a major hit with the iconic red tortilla strips and most importantly, the “lava sauce”!
Although it’s no longer around, Taco Bell may bring it back, you never know, they have made some pretty crazy moves! One thing is for sure, the Volcano Burrito is missed deeply today.
5. KFC Potato Wedges
Not long ago, KFC decided to move away from their wedge-style potatoes, and went with traditional french fries. While the fries are getting a lot of love, many people still miss those classic wedges.
The potato wedges went very well with KFC’s bone-in chicken, and they always seasoned the potatoes perfectly. It’s definitely one of the most all-time beloved fast food potatoes.
6. Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets
Wendy’s know they have a gem here. They frequently will bring on spicy nuggets then take them right off, only to bring them back a couple years later. It’s a genius marketing method, but the people want their nuggets, spicy!
The Wendy’s spicy nuggets are the perfect amount of heat and spice, many who don’t usually like spice will often get these just because they enjoy the flavor more. With Wendy’s amazing different sauces, the nuggets are a go-to option.
7. McDonald’s McRib
The McDonald’s McRib is considered by many to be the most iconic on and off fast food item. McDonald’s goes all out, putting a smothered bbq patty on a long bun with onions and pickles on top. It’s a wonderful mix of flavors.
People often wonder why they can’t get the McRib year round. It is truly upsetting, but when they are in season, make sure to run to the nearest golden arches so you can grab yourself one…or two.
8. Little Caesars’ Pepperoni Crazy Bread
Little Caesars’ is well-known for their Hot-N-Ready pizza’s, but they also have this amazing little appetizer known as crazy bread. Crazy bread is essentially just a pull apart breadstick with cheese, and dipping sauces.
In the 1990’s, Little Caesars’ introduced this crazy bread and it included pepperoni, however, they no longer serve this. This is a bummer for many considering how good the crazy bread was with pepperoni, but have no fear, traditional cheese crazy bread is still on the menu.
9. Taco Bell Mexican Pizza
The Taco Bell Mexican Pizza was another Taco Bell hit that while it is back on the menu today, it took a while for them to get it back. In fact it took a whole 2 years. That being said, well worth it! The Mexican Pizza is a delicious take on an Italian classic.
The Mexican Pizza is one of the most popular items on the menu today, and it likely will be for the rest of time!
10. Burger King’s Angry Whopper
Burger King has quite a few discontinued items that the people are begging to come back. The Cupcake Shake or the crown-shaped chicken nuggets or maybe the infamous Whopperito. There is one that’s a bit odd, but also quite popular. That’s the Angry Whopper.
The sandwich include a flame-grilled patty, bacon, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, angry onion petals, jalapeños, mayonnaise, then spicy angry sauce. It is missed especially by those with a love for the heat, but you never know when it may come firing back!
11. Popeyes Big Easy Chicken Bowl
Popeyes is a great fried chicken option, with sandwiches, fries, biscuits, and once upon a time there was the Big Easy Chicken Bowl. Sadly Popeye’s went into new ownership in 2017 and the item was discontinued in 2015, so it’s unlikely we will see it again, but it was an amazing dish.
The bowl included white meat chicken with cajun gravy, red beans, rice, and shredded cheese. Then you could also get sour cream or hot sauce on the side. It was a great mix of flavor, but sadly it just could not stick.
And For Dessert
So we talked today about some fast food items that are seasonal and discontinued. From the Wendy’s Bacon and Blue to the KFC potato wedges, there is a long list of items that people wish would stay on the menus for good.
If you have a real itch to get something back onto a menu, why not reach out to the chain’s office. Every voice makes a difference, and you could be the one who brings back the McChicken Selects.
And always remember when you are looking up “food places near me” the classic’s will always be a good option!
