McDonald’s has made it their mission to create a menu that’s both tasty, and healthy. Or at least, healthier than it used to be. Throughout the years, they’ve experimented with fresh beef and removed artificial preservatives from their chicken nuggets. But now, they’ve made the biggest change of all. The chain actually removed all of the artificial ingredients from a majority of their menu.
That’s kind of a big undertaking, especially since McDonald’s currently has approximately 14,100 locations in the United States. But it’s true — the cheese, buns, and sauce used for their multiple burgers no longer use added colors or flavors. And luckily, you might not even notice, since the burger chain has stayed true to their unique flavors.
It’s a big change. But unfortunately, the McDonald’s menu isn’t completely free of artificial flavors just yet.
If you’re a fan of their breakfast menu, they have yet to retool their most popular classics. But even so, changing their burger ingredients is still a huge step forward.
If you think about it, McDonald’s might very well change the way you think about fast food. It’s still not considered health food, but it can be argued that their burgers might not be such a terrible choice if you need a quick bite to eat. Even the cheese is now free of sorbic acid.
According to Food & Wine, there’s only one burger ingredient that has remained as-is, but it’s one you might have not even thought of as being bad. Technically, their pickles include artificial ingredients, but since they really help make McDonald’s burgers stand out, the company has decided to keep them.
“There are different types of pickles available, but to keep the taste our customers know and love, we made no changes to our signature dill pickle,” McDonald’s spokeswoman Andrea Abate said through email, as per The Chicago Tribune.
These changes just go to show you that McDonald’s is dedicated to providing food with ingredients that anyone can be proud of. Might want to grab a Big Mac tonight to celebrate.
