When you want to indulge in burgers and fries, your local fast food joint is the place to be. While you’re at it, you might even be able to sneak in some caffeine in the form of soda, iced tea, or maybe even coffee. But if you’re all about energy drinks, you won’t have much luck at a fast food restaurant.
But it’s a different story if you’re at Sonic, who just partnered with Red Bull.
Wait, what? Red Bull at a fast food restaurant? You bet. What’s more is that Sonic will be serving frozen Red Bull slushies, instead of the iconic Red Bull cans. According to an article on Bloomberg, Sonic hopes to “pull in the so-called young, hungry males who have remained loyal fast food customers even as eating habits shift in the U.S.”
After all, “young, hungry males” are definitely part of the fast food demographic.
Yet, considering most fast food chains have released healthier menu items, it’s interesting how Sonic has generally avoided that path. The Bloomberg article also shares that the restaurant will be releasing cake batter shakes and adding more bacon to their BLT sandwiches. While you’re at it, you can also snag items like a foot-long chili cheese hot dog and an Oreo cheesecake shake.
And now you can wash it down with a Red Bull slushie.
Do you have to be a “young, hungry male” to do so?
Well, hopefully not.
But energy drinks are popular with young adults, so it makes sense.
We’re curious to see if this frozen Red Bull slushie will bring in new customers to Sonic, though.
Red Bull already has a loyal following.
Of all the energy drinks, the brand has the highest market share worldwide.
However, one can’t help but wonder if customers will prefer the drink in its original form.
That’s not to say slushies aren’t delicious.
There’s something about a slushie that makes any drink more appealing.
Wine slushies, for example, are amazing.
There’s also mimosa slushies, which are just as tasty.
In terms of fast food, Taco Bell offers frozen drinks, like the Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze.
They also have the Strawberry Skittles Freeze.
The fast food world has yet to see an energy drink slushie, though.
And Sonic is the first one to do it.
Will it help Sonic stand out in a world of Whoppers and Big Macs?
Only time will tell.
