This Is The Most Haunted Restaurant In America, And We Are So Freakin’ Spooked

most haunted restaurant

Poogan’s Porch, a southern brunch and dinner spot in Charleston, South Carolina, has a menu that will make your mouth water. They’re a local favorite for everything from fried green tomatoes to chicken and waffles. But Poogan’s Porch is also known for something else: Many consider it to be the most haunted restaurant in America.

According to the restaurant’s website, the building was erected in 1891. It was converted from a home to a restaurant in 1976, and has operated as such ever since. But there are a few people who still see the building as a residence. And those people would be ghosts. Yup, Poogan’s Porch is believed to be haunted by the ghost of Zoe St. Armand, a woman who owned the house in the early 1900s. After the death of her sister, Zoe reportedly went mad. According to legend, she fell down the stairs to her death while looking for her sister. Some believe that her spirit never really left the building.

“Occasionally you can see her looking for her sister in the front dining room,” assistant general manager Terell Ham told Food & Wine.

Apparently, the Charleston police have received so many calls reporting a distressed woman dressed in black seen trapped in the restaurant that they no longer take those calls seriously; they know it’s the ghost of Zoe. We have chills just thinking about it.

But that’s not all. Poogan’s Porch has another ghost: Its namesake pup, a Wheaton Terrier named Poogan. The dog died nearly 40 years ago, but legend has it that he still haunts the dining room, looking for scraps.

“Little children say they feel Poogan running under the table,” Ham added.

Patrons can pay their respects to Poogan by visiting his grave, which is just outside the restaurant.

There are pictures of the pup inside as well.

Even though he isn’t around anymore, Poogan’s Porch is still a dog-friendly restaurant. It’s what Poogan would want.

They also hang up stockings for Zoe and Poogan at Christmastime!
