Supermarkets Are Removing This One Product From The Candy Aisle Because Of Teens

There are a few life lessons we’ve all heard a billion times by now: always look both ways before you cross the street, treat others the way you want to be treated, and Tide Pods simply aren’t candy. Hopefully, that last one is common knowledge by now, but based on teenage pranks and dares, you can never be too sure. That’s why one grocery store made a bold decision to drive this point home by doing something they probably should have done on day one — they moved their Tide Pods further from the candy aisle.

Strange, right? As far as grocery store placement goes, you don’t normally shop for candy and laundry detergent in the same location. But over at the King Soopers supermarket in Greeley, Colorado, that’s exactly how things were stacked. That is, until resident Kaylea Kesterson saw how irresponsible it was and posted about it on social media. “I think it’s sending a weird message,” she said to The Greeley Tribune. “Lot of high school kids go there during lunch and I think it’s a little irresponsible.”

It is — since placing Tide Pods on an end cap by the candy makes it seem like they’re related. Wouldn’t cookies or crackers be a better fit for that space?

The good news is that after Kesterson’s observation, the Tide Pods were moved — and hopefully, they don’t make a return in the near future. Even though we want to assume that teens today are smart enough to avoid consuming a Tide Pod, Munchies reported that around 100 people had called Poison Control over Tide Pods before February even hit this year. And don’t forget about the Tide Pod challenge.

Even though it’s a small move, the location change might at least change the thought process of one impressionable teen. But in general, you might want to talk to the kids you know about how dangerous consuming detergent actually is — just in case they’re still thinking about giving it a shot.
