15 Most Bizarre Situations Pizza Delivery Drivers Have Found Themselves In

pizza delivery stories

In theory, getting a job as a pizza delivery person sounds like it could be mundane. You sit around in a pizza restaurant until someone places an order for delivery, you stock your car with food that smells really good and probably makes you starving (okay, that part has to be annoying), and then you just get out and hand people over their meal. But, in actuality, pizza delivery people experience some of the weirdest things ever. They’re going into people’s homes, hotel rooms, places of work, and more, and not everyone is going to try to be presentable. In fact, they’re often privy to some not-so-pretty details about someone’s life, and things can get, well… really, really bizarre.

If you don’t believe that, all you have to do is read some stories about wild pizza deliveries online — especially on Reddit.

There’s actually an entire Reddit thread dedicated to the weirdest and most messed up experiences from pizza delivery drivers, and some of them are so intense that they will make you thank the heavens above that you never had this job… or that you don’t do it anymore, if you ever did. The stories range from terrifying to creepy to hilarious to just plain odd, but at least they’re all entertaining.

Below, you’ll find some of the most bizarre experiences straight from pizza delivery drivers’ mouths:

1. They delivered to a man who lived under a porch.

Giphy

Reddit user CallHimIshmael didn’t really deliver to a house… instead, they delivered to someone who lived, uh, under the house.

They wrote, “I drove up to the house. It’s pitch black. No lights on. I look at the ticket and it says ‘use back door.’ I go up the steps and no lights on. Nothing. Then I hear a voice from below me say, ‘hey down here.’ I look under the porch and there’s a small door leading into what looked like a makeshift apartment. I had to actually crouch to get to it. Gave the guy the pizza and bounced the fuck out of there.”

2. Someone had pizza delivered while a police raid was happening.

When Reddit user johnboy2978 had to deliver to a “dodgy” part of town, they noticed they were surrounded by police cars.

They said, “Finally, we all get to the same residence, which is totally surrounded by police in riot gear, guns drawn, all that sh*t. I get out with my pizza and discover the house I’m supposed to deliver to is the one with SWAT out in front. One of the officers waves me off and says, ‘he’s not gonna need that today’ and they proceed to breach the door, to which I return to the car with a free pizza and get the hell outta there. They were added to our ‘Do not deliver’ list but I don’t think we ever heard from them again.”

3. Someone tried to completely rip them off.

Giphy

Pizza delivery drivers have to deal with all sorts of people — including ones who don’t really want to pay.

Reddit user wecuminpizza told their story about that: “It was outside of town on a dirt road with tall trees. Every ‘house’ was basically just plywood shacks. There [were] broken down cars and trash everywhere. The entire neighborhood just reeked of a b-rated horror film. I find the right house and walk up to the ‘door’ but it was just a blanket so I had to yell ‘Pizza!’ They come to the door and grumbled. It was a haggard-looking man wearing boxers and a dirty white tank.

Something felt wrong as he handed me a bill that looked washed. I held the $100, with old Ben Franklin’s face on it, up to the light and could clearly see Abe Lincoln in the paper. They had ordered around $50 worth of pizza and wanted change. He tried convincing me that he went to the bank and they gave him that bill. I asked him why then wrong face was on there and he said that’s how they do it. I said hell no and drove away as fast as I could. We stopped taking orders that don’t have street roads.”

4. They had to deliver pizza to a funeral.

Giphy

Pizza is usually for a fun occasion, but, well, not always.

Reddit user nerdyhoe said, “Someone ordered pizzas to a funeral. There were A TON of people there, all somber and dressed in black while I rolled up in my bright red greasy T-shirt lol. Definitely one of the most awkward experiences I’ve had.”

5. One person ended up getting a pizza stalker.

Giphy

This one is just scary: a pizza delivery driver ended up getting a stalker through their job.

Reddit user dunawaysrer7116 worked at a Domino’s and ended up having to blacklist a guy who wouldn’t leave them alone: “He would come in and ask if I was there. If I wasn’t working that day he would just show up the next. If I was on a delivery, he’d wait around in the store for me. He would tell me that he loved me and ask me out on dates. He was very bad on heroin and made it obvious. The last time I delivered to his house, he ordered about $40 worth of food and drinks, and kept trying to hand me $100 even though I told him numerous times I didn’t have the change.

He apparently stole his grandma’s cell phone and wouldn’t give it back and him and his cousin were screaming at each other the whole time I’m waiting to get the smaller bills he kept telling me he had. He had nothing smaller than a $100 and he kept arguing with me because he changed his mind and just wanted 1 pizza and a drink and I told him I couldn’t do that.”

6. They delivered to an isolation room in a hospital.

Giphy

Delivering to a funeral is strange, but delivering to the isolation room of a hospital? That’s pretty out there.

Reddit user Imtooshorttodunk had it happen to them, though: “GPS led me to my city’s hospital. After getting directions from a lot of employees I finally found the room. I’ll admit now, I reallllly should’ve paid more attention to the signs but was in rush and didn’t bother. Luckily there was a nurse already in this lady’s room. I was was just going to walk in and drop food off when the nurse starts shaking her hands and rushes to me. ‘No, no, no, you can’t come in here. This is isolation.’ ‘Oh I’m sorry, she ordered a delivery.’

She went back in the room and asked the lady if she ordered delivery and I heard the lady say yes. I overheard the nurse tell her, ‘You should’ve told me.’ Nurse comes back to me to grab food and told me if I had walked in the room I was not be let back out or something along those lines.”

7. Someone delivered to a swinger’s party.

Giphy

Even more bizarre? Delivering pizza to someone’s swinger’s party.

That’s what happened to Reddit user ttttttodayjr, who said, “This one time I delivered pizza to a swingers party. It wasn’t like on the set of a porno or anything, he straight up told me when I was like ‘having a party?’ Because he ordered 12 pizzas. He answered that this was his first swingers party and he just wanted to be sure everyone was having a good time.” At least that’s considerate!

8. They ended up putting out a house fire.

Giphy

In this case, the pizza delivery driver actually ended up being a hero.

Reddit user emusteve2 was delivering pizza when they noticed the neighbor’s house was about to catch on fire. They explained, “I ran up to the front door and rang the doorbell, knocked, yelled… nothing. I called the fire department. Then, I ran to the house next door, pulled off their hose, ran to the other side of the house on fire, attached it, and started spraying the fire. I had most of it out when the fire department arrived, and they finished the job.

“As they were spraying it down, a 20-year-old girl comes out of the house with two 13/14 year old girls. Apparently, the 20-year-old was babysitting the younger ones, and was scared to open the door. Earlier that night, the two younger girls had broken up with their boyfriends and, with the babysitters help, set fire to pictures of their ex-boyfriends and threw them in the trash can outside. The trash can just happened to be up against the wood fence that was up against the house.”

9. Someone answered the door holding a gun.

Giphy

Not every customer is trusting of someone who knocks on the door!

Reddit user Fritzkreig told this scary story: “The guy at the door slowly opens it armed with a rifle. I asked him if he had ordered pizza, and his reply was like, ‘Oh yeah, I just wasn’t sure that it was you!'” Luckily, he realized in time!

10. One person was tipped with acid.

Giphy

Imagine getting a tip that is just… drugs.

That happened to user L-L_Jimi, who said, “I was tipped in acid once. As in LSD, nobody attacked me with acid.” Well, that’s good, we guess?

11. They delivered to a murder scene.

Giphy

Imagine delivering a pizza and realizing you’re in the middle of a murder scene.

That was the case for user rylo151, who said, “Some dude ordered pizza for him and a handful of his friends, seemed like a normal Friday night party or something. By the time I arrived police and ambulance were on the scene and I was told to leave at the gate and they refused to tell me anything about what was going on. The guy who ordered was killed by one of his junkie friends I found out later the next day.” Good thing they didn’t arrive sooner!

12. Someone almost got attacked by a turkey.

Giphy

Sometimes pizza delivery can be dangerous in a very different way.

User Poast said, “One time I had to deliver to a farm and when I got out of my car a turkey approached me, and turkeys have sharp a** talons so I got back in my car and called the customer. They said it was their PET, and was harmless. I got back out of my car to deliver the pizza and this bird followed me all the way to the house gobbling and nibbling my jeans.” That sounds extremely painful for a pet.

13. They delivered to someone who owned a tiger… in Texas.

Giphy

Want to hear an even weirder animal story?

User tradal delivered to a house in rural Texas, and the neighbor owned a tiger.

They said, “Like a real tiger. A real. Big as f**k. Tiger. Just chilling on a pad of concrete soaking up the sun… I thought the thing was a super realistic statue until it turned and looked at me. I called the dude and told him he could pick the pizza up at my truck, I wasn’t about to get out of my truck with a fucking tiger running loose.”

14. One person got stuck in an elevator mid-delivery.

Giphy

This is a story any claustrophobic person will hate.

Reddit user TheSwoleSwede said, “Took a delivery to a newer hotel, nothing out of the ordinary, take the elevator up to the 3rd floor, and on my way back down, I get back in the elevator, press the lobby button, and I feel it lurch about a foot and then stop. None of the buttons work, I press the emergency button, and thankfully only sat in there for about 25 minutes before they fixed it. Looking back on it I don’t know how I remained so calm.” No thanks!

15. Someone delivered to a porn shoot.

Giphy

What’s crazier than delivering to a swinger’s party? Delivering to a porn shoot.

User _bugz said, “I delivered to a porn shoot. When I arrive at a house, I always check for notes on the tickets, some people want you to use certain doors, or knock rather than ring a bell. This was one of those times. The note was, beep horn once when pulling in driveway. I didn’t think anything of it, I did it and got out and walked to the door. Nothing happened, so I lightly knocked.. door swings open fast, behind him I see 3 girls going down on another. I couldn’t help it I had to say something. So.. I say ‘Ahh just in time for the show!'”

So, it looks like we won’t be getting a job delivering pizza anytime soon. Anyone else?
