Ben & Jerry’s Is Bringing Back Everyone’s Favorite Ice Cream Flavor — Finally

ben & Jerry's One Love

Where were you when you found out that Ben & Jerry’s was releasing one of its flavors from the Flavor Graveyard? Probably online, looking up which one you wanted to save. Well, the votes are in, and it’s one of the best results ever. (Then again, could this contest really have a loser?) The iconic company, known for healing us from heartbreak and celebrating our best achievements in life, is bringing back pints of “One Love.”

If you’re not a Bob Marley fan, you may have accidentally skipped over the flavor. But now’s the perfect time to revisit it, since it sounds like perfection. And if you happen to be a fan of banana, this might morph into your new favorite go-to.

Aside from the banana base, here’s what to expect — caramel and graham cracker swirls, with actual peace signs mixed in. The peace signs are made out of fudge because that’s the most delicious way to bring about unity and tranquility.

Introduced in the U.K. first in 2016, this flavor was later released as a special edition pint in the United States in 2017, which also may have helped its win. Even though certain flavors will stay in your mind forever, this one wasn’t discontinued so long ago that its biggest supporters forgot about it.

Back then, fans were quick to share images of the limited batch ice cream on Instagram.

But more importantly, here’s what it looked like on the inside:

Despite being delicious, the news of the ice cream revival is good for yet another reason. A portion of the proceeds from One Love will help benefit the Bob Marley Foundation’s One Love Youth Camp, which helps bring about social change in Jamaica.

Still, that doesn’t mean that fans of the other flavors in the running weren’t a little disappointed. One person thinks the results may have been skewed.

Another fan was rooting for Candy Bar Pie — which also sounds excellent.

But, it’s always possible for other flavors to come back eventually. A poll is a great way to do a little bit of market research and learn what fans are currently nostalgic for.

If bananas make you think more about breakfast than ice cream, the Ben & Jerry’s team also whipped up a pretty genius recipe for One Love-flavored pancakes. So, you might want to watch this video and jot down some notes.

Ben & Jerry’s actually gets requests to bring back flavors all the time. It’s pretty incredible to think about how many wonderful memories are tied up into those pints.

For others, old flavors kept the memories of particular pop culture moments alive. Because if there’s one team to recreate a flavor based on a classic SNL skit from way back when, it’s Ben & Jerry’s.

On that note, can you imagine what kind of nonsense happened in the boardroom when trying to figure out what “Schweddy Balls” would taste like? (As a side note, this sketch came out 20 years ago!)

Lucky for fans, SNL chose to make their own product — even though nothing will equal up to the famous ice cream flavor.

Aside from being linked with charity (and being delicious), there’s something very special about “One Love” winning the contest this year. It proves that all we really need is a little bit of peace, and moments when we just feel all right.

Congratulations to Ben & Jerry’s for not only creating the best competition in quite some time, but for recognizing the importance of their past flavors.
