What Is Happening With Tommy Pickles’ Eyes On The New “Rugrats” Cereal Box?

rugrats cereal

We fondly remember Tommy Pickles as the pack leader on the ’90s Nickelodeon show Rugrats. He was a cute, bald, diaper-wearing baby who used better vocabulary than we do most days. So when we heard that he’d be featured on the box of the new Rugrats cereal, we were looking forward to the nostalgic feels. However, we’re feeling more creeped out than anything.

Rugrats cereal is produced by the pop culture-driven company, Funko, who are perhaps known best for their block-headed Pop! figurines. The company, which is selling the Rugrats cereal via FYE ($12.99), put their Tommy Pickles Funko character on the box rather than the Tommy Pickles from the actual show, which makes sense from a marketing perspective.

But unfortunately, the Tommy Pickles Funko Pop!, with his black beady eyes, looks more like a soulless anti-cherub rather than the doodle baby we know and love from our childhood.

The cereal itself seems great. It’s a simple multigrain O-shaped cereal that includes a mini Tommy Pickles Funko figurine in every box. We understand Funko is trying to do a cute thing for us ’90s kids, but we honestly wouldn’t want those black eyes staring at us from across the breakfast table.

This Funko character is the Rugrats equivalent to Coraline’s Other Mother. It’s Other Tommy Pickles and we hate it.

Yeah — our thoughts exactly.

Is this Funko’s response to Bird Box or something?

It’s not like we’re anti-Funko figurines. We really love this Leslie Knope Funko:

And these Lucy and Ricky Funkos from I Love Lucy are adorable.

These Black Panther women of power Funkos are honestly too cute to handle.

But… there’s just truly something so sinister about Tommy Pickles.

Um — same.

Others do not feel the same, however. And listen, we don’t understand you, but we’re glad the Tommy Pickles Funko Pop! will be loved by someone.

Just keep that thing away from us. Thanks.
