Earlier this month, Costco devastated fans when they announced that they would be removing the beloved Polish hot dog from their food court menu. Social media was full of customers begging the chain to change their minds (while dragging them for their decision). And now it looks like a competitor is taking full advantage of the situation. Sam’s Club just owned Costco in the best way, and we have to give them props.
On Thursday, July 12th, wholesale brand Sam’s Club announced that, starting July 23rd, they would be adding a Polish hot dog to their café menus. Now, if this were just a random hot dog, maybe it would have just been a coincidence. But a Polish hot dog? Yeah, we’re thinking that’s definitely on purpose.
The tweet announcing the menu change pretty much makes that clear. It reads, “‘Let them eat Polish dogs!’ – Marie Samstoinette, probably.”

The Polish hot dogs will be 99 cents, which is a great deal. A statement released by Sam’s Club said, “About 200 Sam’s Club cafés already have the Polish dog on the menu, but this popular treat is being added to all locations so people everywhere can get their fix. You don’t have to be a Sam’s Club member to dine in the café.”
Oh, and just in case you were thinking this wasn’t personal, check out what Sam’s Club said to Food & Wine when asked if the decision was in response to Costco’s removal of the Polish dog: “YES, Sam’s Club wanted to make sure people everywhere could get their Polish dog fix and at a great value.”
