Cookies and cream has been done so many ways at this point that it barely registers as exciting anymore. But according to a recent report from USA Today, Dairy Queen thinks it found a way to make the classic combo feel new again, and it involves a color you would not expect to see paired with Oreos.
The chain is going all-in on spooky season this year, teaming up with Oreo on a brand new Blizzard as the centerpiece of a much larger seasonal lineup. It is just one part of a limited time collection the brand is calling the Spellbound Series, set to officially launch on Monday, September 28, with everything available through November 1.
Beyond the headline treat, DQ is also rolling out a couple of other seasonal surprises, along with a collectible tie-in that has already caught plenty of attention online. The full lineup is worth a closer look before it disappears after Halloween.
What Else Is Joining DQ’s Spooky Menu

The star of the collection combines classic Oreo cookies with a sweet ube flavored base, a purple hued twist most fans have never seen paired with the cookie before. DQ describes the finished product as featuring an “enchanted purple shimmer” blended directly into the soft serve, giving the Blizzard a genuinely eye-catching, almost otherworldly look to match the Halloween theme.
The Enchanted Oreo Blizzard is not traveling alone this season. DQ is also introducing the Bubble Brew DQ Sparkler, a drink combining blood orange and lemonade with sparkling water, served over ice and finished with cold foam on top. According to the brand, stirring the drink actively makes it bubble and foam more, adding a small interactive element to the seasonal sipper.
Rounding out the food and drink side of the lineup is a brand new ghost pepper sauce, described by DQ as a blazing dip built around fiery, bold, smoky pepper heat. It is a spicy departure from the sweeter items headlining the collection, giving customers craving something savory and intense a seasonal option of their own to try alongside the new Blizzard.
The Real Prize Might Not Be the Blizzard

Launching alongside the food and drink lineup is the DQ Mystery Blizzard Buddy, a collectible plush keychain available only while supplies last. Fans can unwrap one of five distinct designs inspired by DQ’s own Blizzard treats, each one sold for just $4 whenever it is added onto any other purchase at participating locations.
The names alone are part of the appeal, with characters like Blizabeth joining the lineup of five total designs. Since each keychain comes sealed and unmarked, part of the fun is simply not knowing which character you are getting until it is actually opened, turning a simple add-on purchase into a small surprise every time.
Among the five designs, one stands out well above the rest in terms of what it can actually win you. The rare golden Blizzard Buddy, nicknamed Goldie, comes with a reward far bigger than a simple keychain, one worth knowing about before deciding whether to grab one of these on your next DQ run.
Why Goldie Is the One Everyone Wants

According to Dairy Queen, any customer lucky enough to unwrap Goldie will score free Blizzard treats for an entire year, instantly making it the most sought after design in the entire collection. That kind of reward has already turned a simple four dollar add on into something customers are actively hoping to land.
The sweepstakes tied to Goldie is open specifically to customers ages 18 and up who are also enrolled as DQ Rewards members, according to the brand. Anyone hoping to participate will want to make sure their rewards account is set up ahead of the September 28 launch date to be eligible from day one.
Between a genuinely unique new Blizzard flavor, a spicy new sauce, a fizzy new drink, and a collectible plush with a legitimate year long prize on the line, DQ’s Spellbound Series gives fans plenty of reasons to stop in before the lineup disappears on November 1. For anyone tired of the usual seasonal offerings, this one is clearly trying something different.
