Baby showers have changed so much in the past few years. What used to be somewhat stuffy events filled with women ooh-ing and aah-ing over burp cloths is now an event filled with good friends and great food. Yes, baby showers are still cutesy — since babies are cute — but they can also be a wonderful chance to catch up with the mom-to-be over some appetizers and snacks.

Forget the games and gifts — food is one of the best parts about throwing a baby shower. Typically, there are a lot of options to graze on, and if it’s an event that’s catered, you don’t have to hunt down the snacks (bonus!).

However, if you’re going to a potluck baby shower and want to bring some food to celebrate the upcoming new arrival, there are plenty of great baby shower food ideas out there, from snacks to desserts. There’s nothing wrong with serving up the classics, but if you happen to know the baby’s sex, or information about the baby, you can get even more personal with the food. Even if you don’t, it’s a good occasion to serve up sweets decorated in soft, gentle colors. Pastels are always a hit, but they’re almost expected at a baby shower.

Here are a few surefire hits that are destined to delight guests.

1. Hot Chocolate Truffles

If you have leftover candy canes, you can use them to decorate these cute truffles. You can make them using either dark or milk chocolate — or concoct a batch that includes both, if you’re feeling adventurous.  If the baby shower is being held during these cold months, your hot chocolate use will be even more appropriate.

2. Peanut Butter and Jelly Donuts

If the mom-to-be has been craving some delicious homemade donuts, these peanut butter and jelly goodies are the absolute perfect choice. She’s bound to see a lot of PB&J in her future — especially during the picky toddler years — so it’s a perfect way to celebrate a new arrival.

3. Reese’s Lava Cube Cookies

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWnEwMy0i3g"]

Have you ever heard of lava cubes? They’re here to make your baking projects 100% better. These Reese’s cookies from the above video will literally impress every guest at the party.

4. Personalized Cookies

If the mom-to-be has already picked a name for the baby (and made it public), you can try making cookies with the name. If you’re a pro with lettering, they’ll look even better. The type of cookie is up to you, but something like a shortbread cookie would be incredibly elegant.

5. Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfk0SH4HgbE"]

It’s way easier than you think to make chocolate-covered strawberries — and they’re hard for guests to resist. Plus, you can decorate them any way you want. So if you really want to bring home the “blue for boy” and “pink for girl” theme, you can add some color at the very end.

6. A Creative Cheese Plate

Listen, this is mostly going to be about desserts — but you also want to make sure you have some other food on the table, especially if you’re serving people who may need to watch their sugar. Try to pair some cheeses with crackers for your guests. Adding some grapes and nuts is also a nice touch and a great way for people to fend off any hunger.

7. Cookie Monster Cupcakes

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6_bteN3vf4"]

Cookie Monster is someone else a mom-to-be will be pretty familiar with after the first year. These cupcakes are portable, super cute, and bound to make everyone at the party smile. Plus, if you’re looking for ways to incorporate more blue, this is a good, sneaky way to do it.

8. Puff Pastries

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5kz0c6Fkko"]

Puff pastries are so versatile, and also a great choice for an early afternoon baby shower. They’re light and stylish and sure to be gobbled up by everyone in attendance.

9. A Baby-Themed Fruit Basket

Fancy yourself an artist? If that’s the case, this is both a healthy and adorable treat to bring to a shower. Plus, it’s relatively easy, if you’re good with carving. But here’s a warning — if you master it, you may be asked to bring one to every future baby shower you attend.

10. Animal Macarons

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQer3rWcFvc"]

If the shower is animal-themed, you’ll fit right in with these positively adorable macarons. If the mom-to-be happens to have a favorite animal, it’d be such a touching (and delicious) tribute to make sure it’s included in the mix.

11. Bunny Cupcakes

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3I1C8Ncs5U"]

These are almost too cute to eat — and perfect if you’re short on time. If bunnies aren’t your thing, it’s amazing to see how many other animals you can create with just a few pieces of edible decor. (The sheep is a must if the mom-to-be is a fan of marshmallows!)

12. Baby Deviled Eggs

It might seem a little sinister to eat these, but they’re a perfect app to bring. And it’s so hard to turn down a deviled egg.

13. Ice Cream Cupcakes

These also have a lot of range to them, especially since you can top them with any suitable ice cream topping you want. Even the video uses matcha, so feel free to experiment with other powders. It’s pretty amazing what bananas can turn into, right?

14. Bacon-Wrapped Pigs In A Blanket

Just saying. These are easy to make and they’ll be eaten. Trust me. Pigs in a blanket will be a hit at every party you’ll ever throw.

15.  Strawberry Champagne Cake

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gN5LXAeGO0"]

It’s a girl! And that girl is going to know someone who makes pretty exquisite cakes. This pink champagne cake (the alcohol bakes off) may be the one thing that’s Instagrammed more than the mom-to-be.

16. Colorful Cake Pops

Cake pops are the perfect way to celebrate and add a bit of color to the shower. If the mom-to-be is waiting to find out the gender, you could make a mix of blue and pink. Or, you can go all green. (Or purple, or orange, or any color you want, really.)

17. Mini Hot Chocolate Lava Cakes

[fm_youtube url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d3FAaB05Ls&t=78s"]

Craving chocolate? Then these lava cakes are right up your alley. They’re a perfect way to celebrate the upcoming arrival of a little one. Just make sure you bring plenty of napkins, since these have the potential of getting messy.
