These 20 Celebrity Food Quirks Are Really Weird, But Strangely Relatable
We all have our food quirks. Some of us enjoy weird food combinations such as pickles and ice cream, ketchup and potato chips, or peanut butter and bacon. Others can’t stand the sound of chewing, fear seeds, or have an aversion to peanut butter getting stuck on the roof of their mouth (we can empathize). And get this — there are people out there who don’t like chocolate. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.
And what about the rich and famous?
Have you ever wondered what the deal is with your favorite celebrities and their food rituals? We will let you in on a little secret: famous people can be weird AF, too. Some celebrities go on crazy diets to keep up appearances and stay on trend with everyone else. Others have weird culinary obsessions, unusual food preferences, or strange eating habits.
From carrying around ketchup bottles to eating in the shower and not liking frosting (gasp), these 20 celebrity food quirks are crazier than you could’ve ever imagined.
1. Jessica Biel brings her food into the shower.
The The Sinner actress posted a photo to Instagram of her breakfast plate… in the shower.
Yuck? But talk about efficient! “This is just mom life,” Biel explained on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “I’m feeding [Silas] in the morning, trying to get ready, and I realize I haven’t eaten, [so] I just take it into the shower.”
We guess we can understand the struggle, but we can’t help imagining that Jessica Biel smells like chicken apple sausage, even after her shower. Yum!
2. Ed Sheeran carries emergency ketchup.
Did we tell you that Ed Sheeran is, like, really into ketchup?
That’s right. The musician loves ketchup so much that Page Six reports he has his entourage carry an emergency ketchup bottle around at all times.
3. Giada De Laurentis’s favorite dessert is NOT AT ALL what we expected.
Delish reports that Giada loves dipping Milano cookies or Nilla wafers in lemonade. “You’ve got to try it,” Giada told Delish.
Honestly, we’re not sure how to take this.
This flavor combo sounds a little iffy — and potentially soggy — but if Giada says we have to try it, we probably will! #InGiadaWeTrust
4. John Legend has a very strange pre-show food ritual.
GQ reports that singer John Legend likes to indulge in this delicious routine before each performance: “I eat the same meal every time, usually a half-hour before I go on: roasted chicken and steamed vegetables, usually broccoli.”
And Legend is a BIG FAN of broccoli, you guys.
He told GQ, “Broccoli is like my favorite vegetable. It’s the sh*t. I love it.” Finally, a proponent of this underrated, stinky veggie. John, you’re the sh*t, and we love you.
5. Shailene Woodley eats… clay?
“I first heard about the benefits of eating clay from a taxi driver,” Woodley told Into the Gloss.
“I’ve discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn’t absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes,” said Woodley.
We’re not so sure we’re going to start eating clay, but you keep doing you, Shailene!
6. Chrissy Teigen’s weird pregnancy cravings are… pretty inspired.
Food maven Chrissy Teigen ate some delicious yums during her pregnancy, including a mixture of her two favorite cereals: Fruity Pebbles and Captain Crunch. IMHO, this sounds totally weird, but also totally delicious.
Some of Teigen’s followers weren’t having it though, and started criticizing her breakfast choices.
However, Queen Teigen took to Twitter to battle the nasty trolls who could not handle her Fruity Pebble Crunch artistry, and it was FIRE.
You go, Chrissy. Ain’t nobody’s business. You gotta fight for your right to cereal — especially when you’re eating for two. #selfcare
7. Padma Lakshmi’s #pomtoast actually looks really yummy!
The Top Chef host frequently takes to Instagram to show off her ritual breakfast of #pomtoast, a sweet and salty flavor combo of peanut butter and pomegranate seeds on sourdough toast.
Those are definitely some unusual flavors, but #pomtoast seems simple, strange, hearty, and luxurious all at once.
Not gonna lie, we’re thinking we want to try this for brekkie.
Never doubt the palate of Padma Lakshmi!
8. Cardi B is a little too into this dairy beverage.
The rapper released a video on Instagram expressing her love for the lactose-free milk beverage Lactaid. Although the video may have been a branded deal, Cardi B seems genuinely stoked about the milk — and that bejeweled cereal bowl.
Can you really blame her?
We want to eat sparkly cereal without dietary complications, too. Thanks for the info, Cardi B!
9. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson religiously eats these two foods for his “cheat meals.”
Bodybuilder and actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson indulges in cheat meals every once in a while, during which he strays from his usual health practices and routine. And it appears that The Rock really enjoys his big cookies.
And yes, we’re talking BIG, DELICIOUS cookies.
“The Rock” also noshes on sushi dinners that have us drooling. Can we have tix for this “soosh train,” plz?
10. Wh-! Chelsea Peretti doesn’t like frosting!
That’s right, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star doesn’t go for the fluffy goodness known as buttercream.
We know this because Peretti posted a very disturbing photo of her pulverized piece of cake with just the icing left on the plate.
GIRL, you are breaking our hearts!
But we suppose we love you (and frosting) anyways.
11. Kourtney Kardashian insists this is the best way to eat Kit-Kat Bars.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star demonstrated the proper “chocolate first” technique with a video on her YouTube channel, and it’s a little freaky.
“I would never even dream to eat a Kit-Kat and just like bite into it,” Kourtney says in the video. “I guarantee if you do [this] once, you will never eat a Kit-Kat any other way.”
Watching someone tear apart chocolate candy with their teeth is a little… gross, but since it is Queen Kourt, we will “give her a break.” We do admire her signature Kardashian confidence and enthusiasm for chocolate snacks.
12. Chris Pratt ate shrimp off people’s plates at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
While at the restaurant in February, Chris Pratt was reminded of his time as a waiter there almost twenty years ago.
“Every time I go back, I’m reminded of the thousands of shrimp I ate off of people’s plates on the way back to the kitchen,” Pratt posted on Instagram. “Please tip your server. Leave at least 20%. Also leave some shrimp.”
This celebrity food quirk definitely hits home. Do not forget to tip and be kind to your waiters, everyone!
13. Umm. Adrienne Bailon Houghton puts fruit punch in her tuna salad.
“I’ve been told that I make the most incredible tuna fish salad… you guys don’t even understand,” says Bailon Houghton on her YouTube Channel. “My tuna fish does not taste fishy, number one. And number two, it’s got mad flavor.”
The former Cheetah Girls member seems highly confident in the flavor, given that her tuna salad contains FRUIT PUNCH.
We have definitely never heard of this combination!
14. British Prime Minister Theresa May eats moldy jam.
We don’t quite understand this one, but Britain is full of weird food that we don’t quite understand.
Ugh, but seriously, can’t we all agree this looks absolutely heinous? I mean, it’s moldy jam!
15. Kylie Jenner’s mind was blown… by cereal and milk?
We totally agree that cereal is absolutely mind-blowing.
What’s more mind-blowing, however, is that Kylie Jenner waited so long to experience it. The entrepreneur and Keeping Up with the Kardashians star revealed on Twitter that she had tasted cereal for the first time THIS YEAR, and it rocked her world.
We’re just wondering what Kylie ate during Saturday morning cartoons! Not cereal? That’s depressing AF.
16. Jenna Fischer eats the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner — every day!
This The Office star is a creature of habit when it comes to her food.
Delish reports that, for years, Jenna Fischer’s breakfast has consisted of two eggs topped with cheese, berries on the side, and a cup of coffee. For dinner, Fischer chooses between a few consistent favorites: stuffed peppers, salmon, tacos, and pasta.
You know what they say: if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it!
17. The Queen is bananas for bananas.
The way Queen Elizabeth II eats her bananas is super unusual.
According to her Royal Highness’s former chef, Darren McGrady, the Queen of England eats her bananas with a knife and fork, and according to Insider, she does so to avoid looking “like a monkey.” We never thought you could (or should) eat a banana this way, but can you really picture the Queen of England eating fruit with her hands?
In a weird way, it feels right.
18. Miley Cyrus insisted on vegan chicken and dumplings at her wedding reception.
When speaking to E! at the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year Gala, Cyrus explained, “That was my only rider. I would do anything for dumplings. You could add nothing else. I didn’t even need a dress; I was trying to wear leggings and a hoodie. I just wanted dumplings, that’s all.”
A lot of people cringe at the thought of vegan food, but both Miley and husband Chris Hemsworth are vegan, so it would make sense that they’d want a vegan spread on their big day.
According to In Touch Weekly, the two served truffle mac and cheese and vegan fried chicken. And for dessert, vegan banana pudding and vegan vanilla cupcakes. As for the cake? It was vegan vanilla with vanilla bean buttercream.
Putting your favorite foods above all else on your special day, Miley, makes you our kind of girl!
19. Zooey Deschanel likes black licorice.
In an interview with Delish, Deschanel revealed that she liked the controversial candy, and we have to admit we are pretty shocked. Black licorice has a strong taste that is widely disliked.
Then again, this is the quirky Zooey Deschanel.
She would see the sweet side of a candy that many find… unpleasant.
20. Lana Condor posts all her meals on Instagram.
The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actress posts her meals daily, but it’s not simply a strange quirk. Elle Canada writes that Condor hopes her posts will normalize eating and promote healthy body image. She said to Elle Canada, “I know what it’s like to have an eating disorder and body dysmorphia — and also what it’s like to be a friend to someone who has that,” she noted. “I think it’s time to give people comfort. You have to eat. You have to stop thinking that a certain body shape is ideal, because it’s not.”
Condor artistically crafts gorgeous Instagram food posts that are total goals, and let us just say, we are totally inspired!
Thank you, Lana, for being you, and for using your platform to help the world shine.
