People Are Losing It Over What This Burger Chain Covered Their Tables With

If you’re a fan of Pinterest, you’re well aware that people love quirky new designs. The site is a good place for inspiration if you’re looking for eye-popping wedding ideas or for cute ways to design a nursery. But even if something is unique, it doesn’t mean it’s a winning idea. Someone should have clued this restaurant into that fact before their idea became a reality.

The restaurant in question, called Grill’d, is located in Melbourne, Australia. They specialize in burgers, and they’re proud of the fact that their beef is free-range. To drive that point home,  they chose to cover their tables in grass. Yes, you read that right — a sheet of sod is right where your plates and cups would go.

Food fans from around the world took note of Grill’d after BrownCardigan, who owns an apparel shop online, posted an image of the table in question. “We get it,” they said. “You are the brains-trust capital of Australia for self-gratifying, capitalist ethics. Can you please stop trying to one-up yourselves?”

While the comments include a slew of different opinions, the post currently has over 11k likes.

It’s not the worst thing a restaurant has done, but it’s not necessarily a move that’d make customers comfortable. (Especially if you know you’re the type to pick at the grass while waiting for your food.)

“Will Melbourne get the bronze, silver, and gold for useless burger shop fit-outs?” they asked. “We get it! Organic is good, buy local.”

Sure — grass on the table might be taking it too far. And, maybe the restaurant’s owners might realize that watering the tables is a tiresome task after a few weeks.

Grill’d, who operates a few locations, reportedly tried to make light of the situation by asking BrownCardigan to mow the grass for a free burger. The restaurant seems to stand behind the impractical idea.

But still, it wouldn’t be surprising if Grill’d gained a few extra customers who wanted to see the tables in person. Maybe they’ll just make sure to bring a picnic blanket with them in advance.
