The other week, I realized that I’m using my Keurig for the wrong thing. Coffee is great, but there are other pods out there that deserve some attention. For one, hot chocolate. Even though it’s pretty nostalgic to dump a sleeve of Swiss Miss into a cup of hot milk or water, the Keurig is one of the quickest ways to get your hot chocolate fix. But M&M’s released something even easier than that.
You heard that right. M&M’s chose hot cocoa as one of their 2018 holiday flavors, and it’s oddly genius. For one, they’re already known for chocolate. Two, the flavor is a perfect seasonal fit for a holiday stocking.
Since hot chocolate is all about temperature, M&M’s found the perfect way to celebrate the flavor. The shell is milk chocolate and the inside tastes like marshmallows. As you know, marshmallows and hot chocolate go together almost as flawlessly as peanut butter and jelly.
If you’ve already made a point to tell Siri to add these to your grocery list, there’s one thing you need to know. Hot Cocoa M&M’s are only available at one retailer. The good news is that it’s Target, and you probably had plans to go there anyway.
Target actually made the announcement first, at their 2018 holiday preview. It’s not the first or last time the company has gotten special-edition snacks.
Will M&M’s ever fully replace a cup of the good stuff? Probably not — eating M&M’s while trying to stay warm by the fire just doesn’t have the same impact. But they’re a great replacement if you’ve got a hankering for some hot chocolate, but don’t have a Keurig or stovetop nearby.
